The Challenge

Nationwide Hygiene is a leading supplier of hygiene and cleaning products in the UK. They use Dynamics 365 Business Central (formerly NAV) as their ERP system, and QlikView as their reporting tool. However, they faced some challenges with their data and reporting systems. They needed to:

  • Migrate their existing SQL and Excel-based reports to Power BI, a more modern and powerful reporting tool.
  • Ensure that the new Power BI reports work with both their original Dynamics NAV system and their newly implemented Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) ERP system, and pull together all of the data – old and new – into one seamless environment.
  • Stabilise the existing QlikView implementation and provide ad-hoc support, to ensure that they can continue to get all the data they need for their original NAV system until the Power BI project was complete.

Nationwide Hygiene contacted Hopton Analytics, a Power BI and data management expert, to help them overcome these challenges and improve their data and reporting systems.

The Approach

Hopton Analytics took a two-pronged approach to resolve the challenges that Nationwide Hygiene faced.

Firstly, they ensured that the QlikView system was secure and working effectively. This included some re-engineering of some of the original QlikView models to ensure that it worked effectively. From then on, the team at Nationwide Hygiene could be confident in the data that they were getting from their QlikView system until it was decomissioned.

Secondly, Hopton Analytics began a project to migrate their existing QlikView Reports and SQL and Excel based reports to Power BI.

The Hopton Team ensured that the new Power BI reports collated data from their old Dynamics NAV system and their newly implemented Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) ERP system: pulling together all of the data – old and new – into one seamless data environment. This enabled Nationwide Hygiene to have a complete and consistent view of their business operations and performance, including data from years gone by.

The Results

Nationwide Hygiene migrated from QlikView, Microsoft SQL Reports, and Excel to Power BI, integrating data from their old Dynamics NAV and their new Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP systems. Along the way, they secured Nationwide’s QlikView system to ensure no loss of information or analytics whilst the Power BI project was being put live. Once live, Nationwide Hygiene gained better visibility, efficiency, satisfaction, and productivity from their Power BI tool, with lower costs and risks. Nationwide Hygiene now use its data and reporting systems as strategic assets.
